The Chennai based Sathyam Cinemas, one of the most prestigious complexes in India, is doing their best to usher Pongal with “Harvest of Hope”.
They will be promoting traditional Tamil folk arts like Karagattam (a folk dance form of Tanjore), Killi Josiam (tarot card reading)and much more in the lobbies of the cineplex.
But the highlight is on Sunday there will be “Rising South”- a concert by the band ‘Little Babooshka’s Grind’ (LBG) in the evening (5 — 7 pm) in the theatre premises. Voluntary collections from this concert will be forwarded to select relief funds for victims of the Tsunami disaster.
According to Swaroop Reddy, of Sathyam Cinemas “We have tied up with an NGO Humanism in a major drive to collect toys, pencils and notebooks for children affected by the Tsunami disaster”. It is a bold and innovative beginning to usher the New Year. Three cheers to Sathyam cinemas
So this Pongal, the vibrant rangolis, the festive combo of sweet pongal and sugarcane juice will transform Sathyam Cinemas into a see-saw of happiness and hope.
