Settai trailer with Viswaroopam?

It has become fashionable in the industry for any filmmaker to boast that the theatrical trailer of his film will be screened along with a forthcoming biggie. Recently before Pongal, many producers boasted that their ‘first look trailer’ will be attached with the new releases.

But fans keen to see the new trailers ended up being disappointed as it was not shown in most theatres. Theatres said that they had no time to play it and it was not part of the main feature film. Some multiplexes wanted money to screen the trailer which they treated as a commercial advertisement.

Dhananjayan of UTV had tweeted : “Have to thank Kamal sir whole-heartedly for consenting to add UTV’s Settai's new trailer with the magnum opus Vishwaroopam. The new trailer of Settai is colorful, fast and complete entertainer; do check out in big screen with Vishwaroopam.”

Jayendra Panchapakesan whose Qube Cinema delivers digital film content to 90 % of screens in Tamil Nadu said it is unlikely that theatres will show it as it is not part of the original movie.

Jayendra tweeted: “If you want to attach a trailer to a movie it has to be a part of the censored movie and should share one censor certificate, then it will be part of movie. In digital delivery a trailer is sent separately and is entirely up to theatre to play it. It cannot be attached to movie”.

In Bollywood, trailers which are attached to a new film are censored along with the original. Producer of the new film will have a deal worked out and in most cases production houses like Yash Raj Films, it will be one of their own forthcoming films attached to the new release.

In Kollywood, they get a nod from producer of a new release and create hype around theatrical trailer and announce it, but they are not censored along with the main film. Some theatres agree to screen it but a few multiplexes are treating it as a commercial advertisement.
