There is a popular saying ‘Fortune favors the brave’ and it perfectly suits actor Ravi who enjoys ‘Jayam’ (success) only through his hard work and thirst to attempt unexplored genres. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that Ravi silently experiments within the commercial format. Here are a few examples—Peranmai (played as a forest officer who hails from tribal community), Bhoologam (first proper boxing film set in North Chennai), the epic Thani Oruvan, Miruthan (first zombie film in Tamil), Vanamagan (played once again as an innocent forest tribal), and Tik Tik Tik (first modern space-based action adventure in Tamil).
Ravi’s penchant for experimenting started way before but unfortunately, a few attempts didn’t get him the desired result including the most anticipated Aadhi Baghavan (played a transgender villain), Dhaam Dhoom and Nimirndhu Nil. Though Ravi’s films take time to hit the screens, audiences always respected his hard work and dedication.
Tik Tik Tik which was supposed to release in January got delayed by six months and released on June 22 and everyone accepted it with open arms! Tik Tik Tik is not a film without flaws but audiences encouraged the team for their brave attempt and guts to bring the unexplored space genre to Tamil cinema, the film has been declared as a big hit at the box office and still holds strong in its third week.
For an actor like Ravi who got family audiences to his side, he could happily accept tried and tested family entertainers to score hits at the box office. But Ravi walks the extra mile to do something different and proves his ability to deliver hits with the unfamiliar genres.
At the recent success meet of Tik Tik Tik, Ravi’s brother Mohan Raja recalled how the Peranmai actor lost hope when his films stuck because of financial issues. “Audiences respect his hard work and only because of the success of Tik Tik Tik, his faith has been restored”, said Mohan Raja.
Ravi has also overcome a lot of criticisms, a section used to criticize his peculiar voice but today, no one is talking about it because the actor’s meticulous performances stand tall above those minor drawbacks. There were also critics who said that Ravi can score hit only with his brother but the actor broke the myth with films like Peranmai, Romeo Juliet, and Tik Tik Tik.
Ravi is someone who doesn’t feel insecure to share screen space with other actors, he confidently acted with ace actor Arvind Swamy in Thani Oruvan and Bogan but still establish his own individuality. Even in Tik Tik Tik, the genre of the film and technical aspects have more scope than Ravi but the actor understood it perfectly and gave his nod.
Jayam Ravi’s next immediate film is Adanga Maru, a crime action thriller, the actor is likely to soon join hands with his brother Mohan Raja for Thani Oruvan 2. We at sify.com wish this man of all seasons all the very best!
