Senthilnathan has ripped of the Thai mega-hit Shutter, which has become a cult horror on DVD. But he has been able to make it work by Indianising it and creating, tension and fear among the audiences, with superior lighting and camerawork.
It begins when Krishna (Yogi) a young photographer and his girlfriend Sona (Jayashri Rao) accidentally run down a young woman on their drive home after a night's party on a deserted stretch of East Coast Road, near Chennai. They decide to leave the dead body and drive away .Later Krishana discovers something strange when he finds a mysterious shadow that appears on the pictures he takes with his camera.
He thinks that's just a bad picture, but then he realizes that there is something much more sinister behind the shadow on the picture frame and the extremely unsettling dreams. Unable to cope, they start investigating the phenomenon of the ghost appearing on the photographs, which leads to a discovery about Krishna's past, and a possible clue to the identity of their ghostly nemesis.
The director and his team are successful in their basic aim to frighten the viewers. The library scene and the ghost chasing Krishna in the hotel corridor are truly eerie moments. The film has an appropriate title; it's the snake that coils around the neck of Lord Shiva, inseparable from him like the ghost which is glued to our hero!
Yogi as Krishna is one of the most impressive actors, one has seen in recent times. The director has been able to give an eerie look and feel to the film, though Chitty Babu's comedy track should have been deleted. The supernatural thriller is worth a watch, and is well made and moves fast with plenty of twists and frightening surprises in the climax.
Verdict- Racy, Creepy Thriller!
