'Celebrate South African Cinema’, a 3-day film festival presented by the Department of Art and Culture, Republic of South Africa, to be held from 21-23 March 2013 (Thursday to Saturday) at Four Frames, Lake Area, Nungambakkam, Chennai.
Noted veteran actor Sivakumar inaugurated the three day South African Film Festival at Four Frames in Chennai on Thursday (March 21) evening. Sivakumar lighted the traditional Kuthuvilakku and inaugurated the festival. Among others present were director Pandiraj, G Dhananjayan of UTV, and Elred Kumar.
The festival aims at creating awareness about South Africa and its film industry and will have in attendance, directors and dignitaries from South Africa. Over three days, there will be three South African film screenings and interactions with South African directors . Celebrate South African Cinema’ will showcase three South African Films - Skeem, a fast paced action comedy, 31 Million Reasons, a cops and robbers action film and Zama Zama, a drama on the lives of illegal gold miners of South Africa.
Speaking on the South African film festival in Chennai, Mr Sibusiso Xaba, Director at the Department of Arts and Culture from South Africa said : “We are excited to bring good South African films and two of our finest film directors through the South African Film Festival, for the first-time to the city of Chennai. Tamil Nadu and South Africa have a deep historical connect, owing to the large number of South Africans of Tamil descent. We are keen to promote South African arts and culture in the city and in India and this South African Film Festival is one of the initiatives towards that goal.”
