Producers from Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada Film Industries to unite today (June 30) to represent their plea against GST to Central Government. According to the GST rollout, theaters which sell tickets below RS 100 should pay 18% tax and theaters, especially multiplexes which sell tickets above RS 100 should pay 28% tax.

In an official statement issued by Tamil Producers Council, they have mentioned that they will be putting forth their third representation today (June 30) to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Tamil Film Producers Council wants regional language films to be exempted from GST and non-regional movies could be taxed at a lower rate but they are fine with the high GST for Hollywood and foreign language films.

“We have also highlighted the problems faced by them and have provided a solution in the representation. We hope the government hears our plea and intervenes soon," said the council. The plea was also signed by veteran actor Kamal Haasan.
