Veteran actress Sridevi, 54, passed away in Dubai after cardiac arrest, engulfing the entire country in a pall of gloom.

The Padma Shri recipient passed away in Dubai on Saturday night due to cardiac arrest. Sridevi was there to attend the marriage function of actress Sonam Kapoor's cousin Mohit Marwah, along with husband Boney Kapoor and younger daughter Khushi, reported IANS.
Sridevi began her career at the age of four in the devotional film Thunaivan.
That marked the beginning of a journey in filmdom that saw her work across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi productions, leading her to become one of the most formidable actresses of the 1980s and 1990s in Bollywood in fact, the only female superstar the industry has seen.
The Chaalbaaz actress has shared screenspace with Superstar Rajinikanth in over 20 films and of course, decades of friendship.
When Rajinikanth was shooting for Kochadaiiyaan with Deepika Padukone in 2011 in Chennai, he fell ill on the sets and was admitted to a hospital. Later, the superstar developed complications and was shifted to a hospital in Singapore. He was critical.
Sridevi, an ardent Sai Baba follower, vowed to fast for a week in turn for Rajini's good health. The actress didn't tell anyone of the penance that she had undertaken, until Rajinikanth recuperated from his ailment.
The actress fulfilled her promise and then visited Sai Baba’s Temple at Pune.
After her demise, many Rajini fans recounted this incident on social media and are praising Sridevi for her gesture to their superstar and paying their homage.
Rajinikanth rushed to Mumbai once he received the news of her demise.
