The plane carrying Sridevi's body is expected to take off from Dubai airport at around 6:30 pm.The body will be flown to Mumbai in a private jet belonging to Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani, which was on standby for the last 2 days in Dubai. A flight from Dubai to Mumbai takes approximately three hours and the plane is expected to land in Mumbai at around 9:30 pm. The body will be taken to her Lokhandwala home, Green Acres, where preparations are on to receive the body.
The cremation will take place after 10:30 am at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu. Sources confirmed to Gulf News that no objection certificate to release the mortal remains of the celebrated actress was handed over to the representatives of the Indian Consulate and her family at around 12:45pm. At 12:57pm the Indian consulate tweeted that the Dubai Police has handed over the Consulate and the family members letters for the release of the mortal remains of the Indian cinema icon Sridevi Boney Kapoor so that they can proceed for embalming. The Indian Consulate told CNN-News 18 that the veteran actor's body will be flown back to Mumbai today. The Indian Embassy has received necessary clearance and will soon request for a local visa. Sridevi's passport will be canceled after that. Actor Sridevi's body is expected to reach Mumbai today. In the aftermath of the demise of the veteran actor, the police recorded the statement of her husband and noted producer Boney Kapoor.
As per media sources, Boney Kapoor was summoned by the Dubai Police to provide his testimony.According to a report in Khaleej Times, director and husband of the late Sridevi, Boney Kapoor, only provided his testimony on Sunday morning. The conversation between police and the director took place when her body was discovered at Jumeirah Emirates Tower Hotel on the night of her death. However, he was not called by the police on Monday for further interrogation. Meanwhile, Indian Envoy to UAE Navdeep Suri on Monday assured that the Indian embassy is trying hard to send mortal remains of Sridevi to India at earliest.
The actor's body is still in the mortuary in Dubai and it needs clearance before being taken to the embalming unit in Muhaisna.
Police released the forensic report revealing that Sridevi died of accidental drowning. The report claims that the actress lost her balance and fell into the bathtub and drowned.Traces of alcohol were also found in her blood.The autopsy negates earlier media reports of Sridevi's death being caused by a heart attack.
The Dubai Police have transferred the case to the public prosecutor's office, from whence all standard legal procedures will be followed through.The Dubai-based Gulf News quoted the UAE government's forensic report on its official Twitter handle. The cause of death is listed as accidental drowning in the report. A copy of the forensic report, attached with the post, has a stamp of the "Ministry of Health UAE" and the director of preventive medicine, Dubai, Dr Sami Wadie.
Her body will soon be moved to the Al Muhaisana embalming unit and will be repatriated to Mumbai, India at the earliest. The police will release the official forensic report and details to the family in the next few moments.
A chief prosecutor told Gulf News: “In such accidental death incidents, the results of the post-mortem and forensic examination reports are referred to the Public Prosecution as part of ordinary law enforcement procedures. The papers are revised by the prosecutors of the jurisdiction where the incident happened. An official order to hand over the body of the deceased to the family or relatives is issued shortly after that.” Earlier there were reports, which suggested that there could be a further delay in handing over the mortal remains of the actress to her family, in case some inconsistencies are found in the toxicology reports. The 54-year-old reportedly had a fainting spell in the bathtub of her hotel room and was immediately rushed to Rashid Hospital in Dubai. Sources in the Indian Consulate said that she was brought dead to the hospital.
