Director Vijay who has delivered some memorable films in the past is keeping his fingers crossed, as Saivam his ambitious film releases worldwide this Friday (June 27). There is a movement towards vegetarianism worldwide and this film delves into this subject.
Vijay has gone off the beaten path with Saivam, which is close to reality, a slice of life and it is something that brings back a feeling of belongingness and being rooted. Vijay who does not do anything which does not excite him says that he loves to work on different genres and Saivam his seventh film is completely different from all his previous ones.
According to Vijay, the story of Saivam was in his mind for the last two years and it relates to something that happened in his life which is very close to his heart.
He says: 'I am a vegetarian by choice and I come from a family that is hard core non vegetarian. Saivam is not a documentary on vegetarianism nor is it preachy. It is about family bonding, values, and today generation who does not have a clue about life in villages, love of grandparents etc'
Vijay says that the script demanded characters and not stars. Actor Nasser plays a pivotal role and he is the backbone of Saivam. Baby Sara is a revelation and her work is outstanding. Vijay has a great team of cameraman Nirav Shah, music director GV Prakash and editor Antony. Concludes Vijay: 'When people ask me who is the hero of the film I don't really know. I guess the story is the hero'.
