One of the most productive “seasons” for Malayalam cinema begins today with two big releases at the cinemas. Lal Jose's Emmanuel takes on Vysakh's Sound Thoma. Next week, Siddique will join the fray with his Ladies & Gentleman.
With the schools closed for vacations and Malayalis celebrating festivals like Vishu and Easter, the theatres are assured of big crowds during the next two months. A decent family entertainer with lots of humour is traditionally regarded as the best bet for such occasions.
The big stars all ensure such a project for the season. The lesser-known stars and their makers will wait for any opportunity to find a place among the season's next options. If any of the biggies go down in the popularity chart, the next lot will try their luck at the box office.
Emmanuel has Mammootty playing an ordinary family man with a wife and son. He is facing a crisis as he loses his job in a publishing house. He then joins a private insurance company. Fahadh Faasil and Reenu Mathews include the cast.
Sound Thoma has Dileep playing the scion of a wealthy household, who has a speech defect due to a cleft lip. Namitha Pramod plays the heroine.
