Three big directors of Malayalam are facing flak for their failed ventures made this year, evidently eyeing at the satellite rights. Though they have been claiming that their films recovered the investments as a result, the damage done to their careers has been pretty huge.
Although there a few more to this list, the top three high profile directors are Siddique, Ranjith and Blessy.
All the three directors have been known for thier genius and also for their success at the box office. However, nothing came to their rescue when they came up with substandard films.
Siddique had been blaming everything from the Malayali audience to bad marketing for the failure of his earlier film Bodyguard, the remake of which turned out to be a blockbuster in Bollywood. His Ladies & Gentleman had plenty at stake, but the film turned out to be a major disappointment.
Ranjith's Kadal Kadannoru Mathukkutty had great expectations to live up to. Eventually, the film turned out to be a shockingly ordinary attempt, aiming to attract the satellite revenue by presenting some big stars in cameo roles.
After all the controversies, Blessy's Kalimannu has turned out to be a halfhearted attempt with virtually nothing new to offer. Swetha Menon's real life delivery and the entire hullabaloo turned out to be a mere publicity stunt and Blessy's efforts to get some respect with hypocritical lines on motherhood fell flat miserably.
