Tik Tik Tik

Cast: Jayam Ravi, Nivetha Pethuraj, Vincent Asokan, Jayaprakash
Music: D.Imman
Lyrics: Madhan Karky
Direction: Shakti Sounder Rajan

Album Analysis:
Tik Tik Tik (Title Track)
Singers:
Yuvanshankar Raja, Yogi B, Sunita Sarathy
The title song of Tik Tik Tik has the composer D.Imman reinventing himself with an improved sounding. Yuvan’s vocals add so much the depth to the highly impressive lyrics by Madhan Karky. Kudos to the lyricist for pushing the boundaries by promoting the usage of some unusual and uncommon tamil lyrics through this song. Yogi B’s rap portions along with Sunita Sarathy’s prime rendition rounds off the number in a highly positive and foot tapping manner.

Kurumba (Father’s Love)
Singer: Sid Sriram

‘Kurumba’ comes across a touching yet peppy number between a father & his son. The usage of words like ‘urulaiseeval pai’ on a contemporary film setting deserves some appreciation. The charanam portions has some interesting chord shifts and the vocals are backed by the strings nicely in the background. There is also a reprise version rendered by Mirthula Siva which retains most of the ideas from the original version but adds its own funky instrumentation fused with more upbeat beats to reflect the mother’s angle of the same song.

Vinveera
Singers: KG Ranjith, Sri Rascol

Probably the weakest track of the album. ‘Vinveera’ tries to be the inspirational yet thematic song that depicts the life of an astronaut but the tune comes off rather flat. The arrangements feature some electric guitar, synthesizers and common percussions. The rap portions don’t fit in organically with the tune like it happened with the earlier number in the album.

Race Against Time
Instrumental

‘Race Against Time’ is a sophisticated instrumental loaded with grand string sections and engineered sounds that runs for a little over two minutes. The lead portions of this instrumental come off through the string sections for which the composer is well known for. Might be placed during the title/credit sequences.

Far Beyond Earth
Instrumental

‘Far Beyond Earth’ is a very interesting instrumental piece that tries to musically show off the explorative mood of the movie. The track is highly digital to listen to and the arrangements have a lot of intriguing elements that grab our attention. It is also interesting to notice some organ themed elements in the background.

On the whole, Tik Tik Tik sees D.Imman in an entirely new light where the composer has reinvented himself and has delivered a solid album. This turns out to be D.Imman’s 100 th album as a music composer and the ace composer has made it a memorable one with tracks like ‘Tik Tik Tik’ and ‘Kurumba’. As we all know, the movie looks high on concept and the music has certainly done its job.

Picks from the album: Kurumba, Tik Tik Tik, Far Beyond Earth
Album Verdict: A milestone album for D.Imman!
Album Rating: 3.5/5
