The T. Subbarami Reddy Lalitha Kala Parishat was formally launched at an impressive function in Hyderabad in the presence of an array of Tollywood celebrities and political leaders, including the Praja Rajyam chief Chiranjeevi and former Chief Minister Rosaiah. The megastar formally unveiled the Parishat`s logo.
Popular producer of yesteryears and the Parishat`s chairman T. Subbarami Reddy said he wished to build an auditorium in each district headquarters of Andhra Pradesh and in cities like Tirupati, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, with an objective to stamp the pride of Telugu arts and give a new meaning to the glory of the Telugu culture and tradition.
About two dozen heroines, heroes and other eminent film industry personalities received awards instituted by the cultural organization. While Chiranjeevi gave away the award and felicitated actor-producer Mohan Babu, the latter reciprocated the gesture, by donating one acre land belonging to him near Tirupati to the Parishat for construction of an auditorium.
Others who were felicitated included Dada Saheb Phalke awardees Akkineni Nageswara Rao and D. Rama Naidu, Gnanpeeth awardee C. Narayana Reddy, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Nagarjuna, Ramcharan, Rana, Jayasudha and Murali Mohan and heroines Shriya, Kajal Aggarwal, Priyamani, Charmme and Amisha Patel.
The colourful event was interspersed with dazzling performances including traditional and fusion dance by actress Shobhana and her troupe, folk dances, comedy skits by Brahmanandam and others and a musical performance by popular singers Mano and Chitra.
