Recently, the US authorities busted an international sex racket run by an Indian-origin couple who worked as production managers in the Telugu film industry.
Reports suggest that the couple ran the high-end prostitution ring by advertising actresses for sex at Indian conferences and cultural events across the country.
According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, the couple charged clients upto 3000 USD for each sexual encounter.
The charges allege that these actresses were brought to the US on temporary visas and were housed in dingy apartment buildings waiting for their next encounter.
The accused duo was arrested in April and they have not been able to procure bail. Their children have been shifted to a child welfare centre.
Telugucinema.com reported that actress Mehreen Pirzada was questioned by the authorities when the young actress was travelling from Canada to the US. When she revealed that she was a Tollywood actress, the US Department of Homeland & Immigration felt that she should be interrogated further.
The actress was detained for 30 mins.
After the sex racket was busted, the authorities in the US have increased their security protocols. Mehreen became the first victim of this overdrive.
