Vishwaroopam: Kamal thanks fans for support

After a successful promotional tour in Mumbai - where Vishwaroop (Hindi) released on Friday (February 1) to rave reviews - Kamal Haasan is coming back to Chennai today (February 2) afternoon.

Kamal will meet the Muslim groups opposing the release of his film in Tamil Nadu to try and strike a compromise.

The film was banned following fears of law and order situation. The tripartite talks, where the state government will play negotiator, are expected to start shortly at the State Secretariat.

The Vishwaroopam controversy remained unresolved on Friday as the Muslim groups opposing the film wanted Kamal himself - as producer and director - to be present at the meeting.

A source close to the development said the Muslim groups are insisting on 20 minutes of what they term as "objectionable content" to be edited out of the film.

But Kamal is not willing for such heavy cuts, which will cause continuity problems.

Meanwhile, exhibitors who were eagerly waiting for Vishwaroopam to release, have lost hope that the film will release this weekend. They have now opened advance bookings for Kadal and David, which released on Friday, for the rest of the week.

Theatres are now looking only at February 8 as the release date for Vishwaroopam.
