Even as the maverick actor-director Upendra is shooting for his movie Brahma being directed by R Chandru, he has signed another big budget project titled Basavanna. Though the title has the name of the 12th century social reformer of Karnataka, the plot is based on a contemporary subject.
After a gap of one year, Ragini Dwivedi will be acting opposite Upendra. Basavanna will be directed by Srinivasa Raju, who directed last years crime thriller Dandupalya. The movie will be produced by C R Manohar, who has produced several hit movies in Kannada and Telugu.
The shooting for the movie is expected to commence in July. In fact, the producer is planning a grand launch for Basavanna. In all likelihood, the movie will be launched in Sweden, the first movie to have a muhurat in a foreign location after a long time. Much of the movie will be shot in European countries, such as, Sweden, Italy and Switzerland. Manohar has already dispatched a team to identify suitable shooting locations.
The movie has already run into problems with a section of society raising objections to the posters of Basavanna, which portrayed Uppi wielding machetes. The social reformer Basavanna is revered by millions of Lingayaths, the largest community of Karnataka. Eventually, producer Manohar agreed to withdraw the posters and clarified that the movie will not have any such scene.
The selection of the support star cast and the technical crew is in progress. Srinivasa Raju may work with the same technical crew that was part of Dandupalya.
