| Went for this with lots of expectations expecially after being
pleasantly surprised by the awesomeness of Barfi! and I was
very disappointed indeed. This Madhur Bhandarkar movie came as a big
let down, the script being the sore point. Madhur has tried too hard to show the glamour world and ends up being too stereotypical. Surprising, coming from a director who has rocked with hard hitting 'exposing the under belly movies' such as Page 3, Chandni Bar and Fashion. The movie fails to keep the audience hooked for even short periods of time. A lot of people could be seen chatting and fiddling with their cell phones even during highly emotional scenes. It is slow and stretched. Kareena Kapoor manages to save the blushes with a bold performance. Almost through the entire movie she goes with puffed up red eyes, swollen face and "struggling with her l...ife" emotions. Her character "Mahi Arora" wears a sullen, defeated, insecure look all the time with lots of high decibel scenes from her so much so that at the end of it all, you just want this to end and go home! Kareena may have done her best work but the script lets her down. Hooda is good and Ranvir Shorey manages to impress in his cameo. The trailer had almost all the decent scenes . At 2.5 hrs, it's too long. All in all this Halkat Jawani fails to stir up the hormones. Hope this was just a minor blip from the great director. Better enjoy the sweet taste of Barfi! than venture out for this one! |
