How has Veeram shaped up?
Veeram is a wholesome family entertainer with all commercial mass ingredients. The film pivots around Ajith sir’s character Vinayagam. It will be a treat for his fans and family audiences, as I have projected a new image for him.
Tell us about Ajith’s character and how different it is from his earlier films?
It is a makeover film for Ajith who will be wearing a white Veshti and shirt throughout the film, except in song sequences. He had an urban smouldering look in his earlier film but here he is a village guy with a sense of humour. Vinayakam is an untamed character rugged but man with a heart of gold.
But Ajith has retained his salt and pepper look even in songs and at times it looks jarring. When you see the film you will understand how important the salt and pepper look for the film as the story demands it.
In fact Ajith sir looks majestic.
Is the film a remake of Mammootty’s Valiyettan from Malayalam ?
No it is not a remake of any film. It is an original subject. There have been other stories based on brothers, this will be new story told in a different manner.
About the much talked about fight scenes in the film, especially the train fight?
There is no blood and gore, the fight scenes have been done aesthetically. Even the censors were impressed that they give it a U certificate. The fights are meant to thrill and not terrorise the audiences. Ajith Sir has done some daring never seen before action scenes. For a man who has done many operations, he didn’t accept my suggestion to go for a body double. Just watch the running train fight and you will understand.
What about Tamannaah ?
She has pivotal role and takes the story forward.
How will you describe Veeram in one sentence?
It is an action packed family entertainer with lots of comedy and emotion, with never a dull moment.
