Cast: Vikram Prabhu, Sri Divya, Soori, John Vijay, MS Bhaskar
Music: D. Imman
After working together in movies like Kumki & Sigaram Thodu, Imman-Vikram Prabhu combination is back again with ‘Vellaikara Durai’. One is curious to find out what Imman(who has just swayed the audience with enthralling music in ‘Kayal’) has delivered. Let us find out:
Singer: Vaikom Vijayalakshmi
‘Kaakaa Muttai’ is a folk track that has a jaded tune and has very less impact on the listeners. Vaikom Vijayalakshmi does her best to keep the listeners engaged but in vain. The interludes are the best portions of the song with typical chord shifts. Give it a miss!
Singers: Haricharan, Shreya Goshal
‘Koodha Kaathu’ has a rhythmic tune and simple arrangements. Haricharan and Shreya Goshal (a regular fixture in Imman album these days) deliver their best behind the microphone. The song albeit similar to some of Imman’s previous numbers is worthy of a listen and is likely to get better with the visuals.
Ammadi Un Azhagu
Singer: Satya Prakash
The best track of the album! ‘Ammadi Un Azhagu’ is totally in Imman’s zone. The chorus portions in the interludes add nuances to the track. The entire outlook of the song has a Kumki hangover but the composer has sticked to his domain and continues to churn out hummable melodies. Good listen!
The most disappointing track of the album! ‘Nadigar Thilagam’ is in the same mold like ‘Scenu Scenu’ from Sigaram Thodu. The lyrics make very little sense(Sivaji movie titles forcefully inserted all over) and the vocals fail to hold its own thereby making the track largely one dimensional.
‘Brass Band’ is an instrumental track which clocks a little over two and half minutes. The entire track as suggested by the title is dominated by brass. The trumpets and percussions have been employed to accompany the lead brass section. It will be interesting to find out how this track is used in the movie.
On the whole, ‘Vellaikaara Durai’ is a forgettable album from Imman whose Kayal is still fresh on the ears of the listeners.
Picks from the album: Ammadi Un Azhagu, Koodha Kaathu
Verdict: Imman has a forgettable outing!
