Stepping into the majestic Annai Illam itself is an endearing experience. Try telling them that you are on diet or had your lunch, they won’t listen and floor you with their warmth and hospitality. After tasting the ‘famous’ Annai Illam lunch, headed straight to the dining hall where we see a huge table with several chairs arranged and it only reminds me of Zamindar houses shown in Tamil films. There comes Vikram Prabhu greeting us and makes sure that we are comfortable
“How do you manage to not gain weight, your family is known for sumptuous food and hospitality? This is the first question we asked Vikram Prabhu. “Well, yes my parents do ask me to eat well but never compel me. I too try to convince them with the same love”, smiles Vikram.
For any hero including Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan, gangster flicks have given a huge lift. For the first time, you are playing a gangster in Sathriyan… “Only after your question, I remember Thalapathy, Sathya and Nayagan, but never thought of these films during the shoot. What really amazed me is SR Prabhakaran’s research. He has sketched characters in Sathriyan well and the story is based on real gangsters in Trichy and surrounding locales”, says Vikram.
The trailer of Sathriyan is impressive, especially Yuvan Shankar Raja’s grand score and Sivakumar Vijayan’s unique visuals. “It feels really good to work with people who give their best. Yuvan is the ‘King of Background Score’ and I can surely say that he has proved it once again in Sathriyan. Sivakumar Vijayan is known for his work in Iraivi and Irudhi Suttru, loved the way he meticulously plans for every scene that he brought a new flavor through his frames and color tone”, praises the Kumki actor, who also has a lot of good things to say about Manjima Mohan.
“Manjima understands Tamil and in fact, she can talk well but she feels a little bit apprehensive that people would find mistakes in her accent. I keep encouraging her to converse in Tamil, she plays a bold girl Niranjana in the film. Sathriyan is not just for youngsters, the film has elements to attract family audiences as well”, explains the actor.
When Vikram forayed into Kollywood, he earned himself a good name for selecting unique scripts but of late, some of his films didn’t do well. “I see it as a learning experience. A lot of things happening in between script listening and filmmaking, we need to learn from our mistakes and bounce back. I’ve started my own production house to learn these nuances, my first venture Neruppuda is getting ready, it will be again a different project in my career and I play a fireman in the film”, says Vikram.
Sathriyan is being produced by Sathya Jyothi Films, who are also bankrolling Thala Ajith’s Vivegam and Twitterati were surprised with Vikram Prabhu’s excitement over Ajith’s fit look. “I know Ajith sir since my childhood so I’m aware of injuries he had. I felt super happy to see him fit and even called him after the first look poster. As a matter of fact, Ajith sir knew how big I used to be before entering into films and appreciated my hard work for Kumki”, signs off Vikram Prabhu.
Sathriyan is all set to release on June 9
