Vinayaga Chathurthi battle

Three Tamil films are releasing today – September 17, the Vinayaga Chathurthi day. They are Nayanthara’s horror thriller Maya, GV Prakash’s second film as hero the adult comedy Trisha Illana Nayanthara and veteran comedian Goundamani’s comeback film 49 O.

Sivakarthikeyan’s Rajini Murugan was supposed to release but due to financial issues had to be postponed indefinitely. The vacancy created by Sivakarthikeyan’s absence has made all these medium films with no big hero release on September 17.

Nayanthara is the biggest female star in Kollywood, especially after the stupendous success of her Thani Oruvan. Maya is riding as her big solo heroine project and is being released by the market leader Sri Thenandal Films. The film carries good pre-release buzz and if the word of mouth works, has potential to be a hit.

Trisha Illana Nayanthara is GV Prakash’s second film as hero after the hit Darling. TIN is said to be a adult comedy which may work with the youth audiences. The advance booking for the film is encouraging and is being distributed by Studio Green, who has a good network. Both Maya and TIN are releasing around 300 screens in Tamil Nadu.

The third release of the week is Goundamani’s comeback venture 49 O, which is said to be a good film with a nice message. The posters indicate Goundamani and Motta Rajendran are the heroes of the film. It is getting a limited release.

The trade is looking for a hit as after Thani Oruvan.  All September releases like Paayum Puli and Yatchan  have bombed. So a lot is riding on Maya, TIN and 49 O.
