The violin believed to have belonged to the band master who played as the Titanic sunk, is set to go under the hammer for a record price.
The instrument owned by Wallace Hartley, is expected to fetch hundreds of thousands of pounds on April 20, when it will be auctioned by Titanic experts Henry Aldridge and Son based in Devizes, Wiltshire, the Daily Mail reported.
According to reports, a plan of the Titanic used in the inquiry into the doomed ship was sold for a record 220K pounds in 2011 but it is believed Hartley's violin will exceed this price.
A source close to the sale has confirmed that it is the most iconic and important item ever connected to the Titanic to come up for sale.
Aldridge and Son, who have so far spent thousands of pounds to prove it was Hartley's violin, asserted that all tests have proved the instrument's authenticity till now, and there is just one final test left, with results due in early March.
They added that the violin will be sold after the final test confirms its authenticity. (ANI)
