At the audio launch of Swathi Kolai Vazhakku, a film based on the Nungambakkam IT girl murder, Tamil Film Producers Council’s President Vishal took a dig at distributors.
“Producers of Swathi Kolai Vazhakku should consult with us at least one month before the theatrical release. For a film like this, distributors would guarantee 175 screens and schedule 9 AM shows in theaters, an unrealistic showtime that even the owner wouldn’t have turned up”, said Vishal, who added that the distributors would even tell the producers that their films doesn’t have business value and make them come down to sell the movie on commission basis.
“Because of such distributors, producers aren’t aware of theaters where their film is running. These distributors promise that our films would pick up in the second week and extend the run because, by the time, the producers’ share would be reduced”, said Vishal.
The Sandakozhi actor said that these days producers community has a lot of enemies. “The shutdown plan has helped us to identify our enemies. We will solve all the issues before December of this year”, concluded Vishal.
