The past business deals continue to haunt Kamal Haasan. Regent Saimira has approached Madras High Court seeking to stop the release of Vishwaroopam. Madras High Court ordered notices to be sent to Raj Kamal Films seeking a reply before January 3.

The actor had taken an advance of Rs 4 Crore from Saimira for Marmayogi in 2008, which failed to materialise. Kamal failed to start Marmayogi and also refused to pay back the money taken as advance.

Meanwhile Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association (TNTOA) threatened that none of actor Kamal Haasan's movies will be released, old or new, in any theatres in the state, if he goes ahead with his plan to premiere his Vishwaroopam on DTH format.

TNTOA general secretary, Paneerselvam said theatre owners have already asked Kamal not to release the film on DTH, which would set a precedent, leading to closure of theatres.

Said Paneerselvan : “The pirated CD and new films shown in television has taken a toll on audience attendance in theatres in Tamil Nadu which has come down to under 1000 now and once a step like DTH becomes precedent, there would not be any theatres in future.”

At the same time Sharat Kumar, Nadigar Sangam chief along with other actors and producers have welcomed the move to screen Vishwaroopam on DTH.

Sharat Kumar said : “ You cannot stop the advancement of technology and I think DTH is the way forward to curb piracy. I’m willing to meet the theatre owners and explain to them the new concept.”

The sale of Vishwaroopam on DTH is going on briskly at Rs 1000 per pay view on Sun Direct, Airtel, Dishnet, Videocon, Big. Kamal Haasan is expected to hold a press meet on Dec 29.
