Kamal's Vishwaroopam

What does one infer from Jayalalithaa’s press conference, where she defended the ban on Vishwaroopam? It is clear that the ball is now firmly in Kamal Haasan’s court as he has to negotiate with Muslim groups about the cuts.

Jayalalithaa had made it clear that the ban was imposed to maintain law and order and there is no question of curbing freedom of speech.

Jayalalithaa said: “Our primary objective was only to maintain law and order, and in that we have succeeded. We have no problem with Kamal Haasan.”

Kamal had agreed in principle to make some cuts in the film. The Tamil Nadu government viewpoint is that - Muslim leaders and Kamal Haasan should sit and sort out the issue which would clear the decks for Vishwaroopam release. Earlier Kamal wasn’t willing to make a single cut so TN government says they were forced to impose section 144 for 15 days so that tempers cool down.

Muslims have welcomed Kamal’s plans to have some cuts in the objectionable scenes. Kamal who is now in Mumbai for Vishwaroop promotions is rushing back to Chennai. If agreement is reached by late night, decks can be cleared for the release of the movie, as early as Friday, February 1 or 2nd.
