Finally after the lifting of the state government ban, Kamal Haasan has announced the release date of his controversial Vishwaroopam as Thursday February 7 in Tamil Nadu.
Vishwaroopam was released worldwide on January 25, but could not release in Tamil Nadu due to a state government ban. Clearing the way for screening the movie, the ban on it was lifted by the government on Sunday, ending the week-long standoff between Kamal and the Muslim outfits.
The ban on the film was lifted after Kamal agreed to make cuts and mute audio. Kamal said: "I have spoken to my Muslim brothers. I have convinced them that there is nothing wrong with the film. I have agreed to remove some sound clips from the film.”
Acting swiftly after government lifted the ban on Vishwaroopam, Kamal Haasan today (Feb 4) withdrew his petition before the Madras High Court challenging the ban, to felicitate the release.
Kamal Haasan in a statement thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and his fans. Said Kamal : “ I am touched by all those who gave support to me including industry people. My fans stood patiently by my side. They chose the path of Ahimsa and no doubt they have found a place for them in history”
