Kangana Ranaut may be his lucky mascot, but director Anurag Basu wasn't keen on casting her in his much-talked about international love story Kites.
"I was not considering Kangana at all for this film (Kites) because she has done big and meaty roles. I couldn't tell her that 'Kangana you are my lucky mascot, please do this film'," said Basu.
Kangana, however, didn't have any apprehension in doing a cameo in the film that stars Hrithik Roshan and Mexican actress Barbara Mori.
"I was the one who gave her a break (in Gangster - A Love Story) and she is a very good friend of mine. She knew the length of the role and she still wanted to be a part of the film. Her role is like a guest appearance and that is what has also been credited for her in the film," he added.
The film hits the screens on May 21.
