It's excellent weather in Chennai, on the eve of Diwali.
Kollywood is keeping its fingers crossed as five films Mynaa, Chithira Poove, Vallakottai, Va Quarter Cutting and Uthamaputhiran are releasing on Diwali day (November 5).
Nearly Rs 35 crore is riding on these five films. Abirami Ramanathan, leading distributor and exhibitor who is distributing Uthamaputhiran and Va Quarter Cutting in Chennai city and Salem says: "I really hope the weather holds on during the weekend. Then we will be having a cracker of a Diwali."
In the advance booking race, Uthamaputhiran releasing in 17 screens is the most preferred film. Says Abirami Ramanathan: "It was a foregone conclusion as Uthamaputhiran is a feel good family entertainer, and has star value with Dhanush and Genelia."
A spokesperson of Mayajaal multiplex said: "We have given 31 shows per day to Uthamaputhiran, while for Quarter Cutting and Mynaa, it is much less. A star film will always take a better opening, while others will grow only with word of mouth."
The weathermen had said that the North East monsoon has set in but it looks weak. If the rain gods are kind, Kollywood will have a great Diwali.
