Now that the Academy Awards nominations have been announced for 2014, it is time to analyze the choices and either nod in agreement or shake one's head in bewilderment.
Let's consider the category of Best animated feature film of the year. Why this category, you ask?
Well, unlike the other major categories, this category, along with Best foreign language film of the year, usually feature the finest cinema from across the world and not just the United States.
If you are a movie buff, you have probably heard of (and seen) movies like Gravity, 12 Years a Slave, Wolf of Wall Street and so on. But categories like Best foreign language film dig out gems like Omar from Palestine.
The Best animated feature film category similarly honours animated films from across the world, thus in addition to the formulaic films from the Disney-Pixar and DreamWorks factories, we get to see films from countries like France and Japan.
