Kumki on Dec 14

His debut film Kumki releases this week and the day is a momentous one for the grandson of the late thespian Sivaji Ganesan. In a quick chat with Sify.com, Vikram Prabhu talks about the experience …

What is your role in Kumki?
I play Bomman a mahout who travels with a kumki or trained elephant that helps control and help wild elephants and their encounter with man.

Kumki- A sify special

How did you prepare for the mahout’s role?
Well, Prabhu Solomon the director saw to it that I spent 25 days with Manickam the elephant in the film. We learnt about each other with him getting used to my voice and smell amongst other things!

I learnt a lot about his eating habits and bonded with him. It was very important to get the chemistry right during the shoot. I spent a lot of time in Kerala getting to know about elephants, their signals and their basic habits as well. It was very interesting.

How was it working with director Prabhu Solomon?
He was wonderful to a newcomer like me. He would explain each scene thoroughly and thus made it very easy for us new artistes Lakshmi and myself. He is someone who actually visualizes the entire scene and explains it so well that you begin to form the picture in your mind!

Lakshmi Menon was debuting with you in this film. How was it working with her?
She is very young but very professional. Since has been learning dance since she was 3 years old, so she is very disciplined and all this was helpful to me as well as it created a good working vibe.

Do you miss your grandfather Sivaji sir at this juncture when you are turning hero, following the family tradition?
Yes very much so! I wish my grandfather were here today with me. But I know his blessings are always there with me.
