Vineeth Sreenivasan's Thira, released last week has been accused of being inspired from a variety of films that includes Trade, Taken and even Karmayodha. Now the director has come out with an explanation where he says that his actual inspiration is the book The Road of Lost Innocence: The True Story of a Cambodian Heroine.
Says Vineeth in his Facebook page: “A few people have been asking me if THIRA is inspired from certain films [international & Malayalam].. some of these films I have seen, some others have not.. One thing I can say is that; if you look at all these films including Thira, you will find one thing in common.. the story.. Every film based on kidnapping or trafficking has the same story. Someone gets kidnapped and someone goes in search of them. I believe that's how it'll happen in life as well as in movies. The real inspiration of Thira is the autobiography of Somaly Mam - "The Road Of Lost Innocence." We have also been inspired by the lives of Sunita Krishnan and Anuradha Koirala.. .”
He adds that a genuine effort has been made to keep the characters authentic and their problems real.
