Kabul, Jan 31 (IANS) A total of 1,400 soldiers Thursday graduated from the Kabul Military Training Centre (KMTC) and were commissioned into the Afghan National Army.

The soldiers were inducted after completing a three-month training, Xinhua quoted KMTC commander Gen. Aminullah Patyannai as saying.

The new graduates are ready to be deployed to any part of the country to provide security for the people, he said.

Patyannai said the soldiers received training from US, NATO as well as Afghan trainers.

Currently, the Afghan army has more than 175,000 soldiers.

The Afghan government and NATO Training Mission in Afghanistan (NTM-A) have stepped up efforts to train and equip Afghan policemen and army personnel.

NATO-led forces have handed over security responsibilities in many areas, a process that will run through 2014 when Afghanistan takes over leadership of its own security duties.
