Puducherry: More than 10 persons, including some students, were injured and one shop, some houses and vehicles were set on fire in four villages in the union territory following clashes between two groups of school students and villagers today, police said.
There were some altercation between two groups of students of Suttukeni village near here travelling in government run bus meant specially for students over a "petty issue", which ended in heated arguments and clash between them, police said.
The real cause of clash was yet to be ascertained, police said.
When the bus reached Suttukeni bus terminal, supporters of each group from neighbouring Sandhai Pudhukuppam, Katterikuppam and Kumarapalayam also joined them and picked a quarrel with the rivals and set afire some houses and vehicles though police rushed to the spot and tried to disperse them.
About 100 persons were arrested in connection with the incident, police said.
Police pickets were deployed in strength in the four villages and the situation was brought under control, police said.
Bus operators refrained from plying vehicles in Suttukeni, Sandhai Pudhukuppam, Katterikuppam and Kumarapalayam, police said.
