11 killed, 40 injured in Pakistan blast

Islamabad, Jan 10 (IANS) At least 11 people, including a child and some women, were killed and 40 others suffered injuries when a bomb explosion rocked Quetta city in Pakistan's Balochistan province Thursday, Geo News reported citing hospital sources.

The incident occurred at 3.50 p.m. when a car bomb went off near a check-post of Frontier Corps (FC), a para-military force in the country, in Quetta's Bacha Khan area, media reports said.

At least five to six FC members were on duty at the check-post when the blast took place. The bomb was planted inside a car parked near the check-post, Xinhua reported.

According to reports, the attack targetted the FC checkpost. Several vehicles including a vehicle of law enforcement agency, nearby shops and food stalls were badly damaged in the explosion.

The explosion destroyed six vehicles and several houses, shops and offices while creating a two-foot deep crater at the blast site.

According to the visiting bomb disposal squad, a timer device was used for the blast which was caused by almost 20 to 25 kg of explosive material.

Those killed and the injured included a para-military trooper and five children.
