Cairo, Jan 16 (IANS) At least 16 people were killed and 10 injured Wednesday when an eight-storey building collapsed in Egypt's northern seaside city of Alexandria, Xinhua reported.
The building in the suburb of Maamoura collapsed early Wednesday. The civil protection authority said the building was illegally constructed in a narrow street without an official permit.
Health Ministry spokesman Ahmed Omar said the bodies were taken from the spot to a morgue while the injured were shifted to hospitals.
The building was illegally constructed on a narrow street. Though it was built five years ago, digging was going on for sanitation services, residents said.
