BJP’s stunning 2014 Lok Sabha victory led by Narendra Modi is a landmark in more ways than one. In some ways it could be called the most important election after the 1951-52 one. Some landmarks that this win has created…
1. End of Congress monopoly: In 1977, the Janata Party stormed to power but couldn’t even complete a term. The Janata Dal always survived on crutches. In 2004, the NDA looked to win and become the preferred alternative for India.
However they lost and the Congress stormed back for 10 years. It seemed that the Grand Old Party was in the DNA of India and there was no way its dependence would go. A modern democracy also seemed at the mercy of a dynasty.
However all that has come to an end. For the first time the BJP has emerged as the preferred choice of the nation. The BJP has got a majority on its own. The NDA is really strong. Now the
Congress will really have to reinvent itself to make a comeback.
