2G auction: Cold response from bidders

New Delhi, Nov 12 (IBNS) No mobile service provider firm has applied for pan-India 2G licence, according to reports on Monday after the first two rounds of online auction that was announced after cancellation of 122 telecom licences by the Supreme Court in the wake of the 2G scam.

According to media reports, there were no bidders either for top circles like Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan and Kolkata even as the government aimed to collect Rs. 40,000 crore in revenue from the auctioning.

The operators participating in the auction are Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Telenor, Videocon and Idea Cellular.

The auction time is from 9 am to 7-30 pm but the companies were given extensions.

"Participating firms have been given an option to seek extension of auction rounds," said Suraj Radhakrishnan, vice-president of consulting firm for auction, E-Procurement Technologies.

India is divided into 23 Service Areas (circles) consisting of 19 Telecom Circle Service Areas and 4 Metro Service Areas for providing Cellular Mobile Telephone Service (CMTS).
