A special court on Saturday is expected to frame charges in the 2G spectrum scandal, deciding whether evidence provided by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is enough to merit the trial of 14 people arrested over the case.
The people facing the charges include administrative heavyweights like former telecoms minister A Raja, bureaucrats who worked closely with him - RK Chandolia and Siddharth Behura; Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi.
From corporate establishments, executives like Sanjay Chandra of Unitech Wireless and Gautam Doshi who was the Managing Director of Reliance-Anil Ambani Dhirubhai Group (ADAG) when he was arrested, also face the charges.
Touted to be the biggest corruption scandal of independent India, the the 2G scam, allegedly masterminded by ex-minister A Raja, pertains to a biased distribution of mobile airwaves and operating licenses, in lieu of kickbacks, to telcos that could have cost the treasury up to Rs 1.76 lakh crore in lost revenue.
