Alastair Cook and Kevin Pietersen hit half-centuries as England stood comfortably at 178 runs for two in their first innings at the end of second day of the second Test against India at the Wankhede Stadium here on Saturday.
Cook (87*) and Pietersen (62*) added 110 runs in the third wicket partnership and remained unbeaten at stumps.
Cook has hit ten boundaries and a six in his 209 ball innings so far.
Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has picked up the wickets of Nick Compton (29) and Jonathan Trott (0).
Ojha picked up two quick wickets as England scorecard showed 68 runs for the loss of two wickets at one point in the first innings.
Cook and Pietersen played well from that point to guide England to comfortable position at stumps.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Harbhajan Singh did not taste success and gave away 54 and 47 runs respectively.
Pacer Zaheer Khan, however, bowled economically and gave only 12 runs in his eight overs.
