New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) Three school students from the capital have been shortlisted by Tony Blair Faith Foundation to represent India in the global film competition section Faith Shorts at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards this year.

The winning filmmaker will be flown to London to have their film premiered at a red carpet event at 195 Piccadilly, home for BAFTAs.

"I am delighted to announce the launch of Faith Shorts 2012. Now in its third year, the global short film competition provides young people with a creative and innovative opportunity to showcase their personal views about faith, their ideals and the world around them," Tony Blair, founder and patron of the Tony Blair Faith Foundation, said in a statement.

"More than ever before, filmmaking has the power to expand the reach of religious ideas to new horizons. But film also has the power to shape public perspectives on religious traditions," added the former British prime minister.

Among the shortlisted candidates is Ishita Gupta, 14, who is participating in the age 14-17 category with her film "Connecting Cultures".

Mudit Muraka, 15, and 17-year-old Sujit Roy have been shortlisted for the Face to Faith category for their films "The Mirror" and "Unsighted Faith", respectively.

Faith Shorts gives young people an opportunity to challenge some of the stereotypes that surround religion.

Participants were asked to produce a three-minute film which answers the brief - "Let me show you how my faith inspires me".

The judges panel includes Blair, Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor and Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Jet Li.

Over 100 entries came for the Faith Shorts competition from countries around the world including the Philippines, Israel, Mexico, Nepal and India but only 15 films were shortlisted.
