In a video released Saturday by the private Mauritanian news website SAHARAMEDIAS, four French hostages held for nearly two years urge France's President François Hollande to negotiate for their release with their captors, al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb.
According to the website the video was shot in northern Mali on August 29 and was transmitted to the site on September 8th.
In the seven minute video, the hostages are shown sitting in front of armed men. The hostages send greetings to their families and ask that they are not forgotten.
The employees of the French company Areva were kidnapped in Arlit, Niger on September 15, 2010 and were transferred to northern Mali which is now controlled by armed Islamists.
