4 years later, grief still haunts parents of Kumbakonam fire

Kumbakonam: Parents of victims of the fire tragedy that struck a private school here in 2004, killing 94 studentds and other students, gathered in front of the Sri Krishna school, where the tragedy occurred and paid homage to the victims.

A memorandum signed by parents of the deceased students was later submitted to the Kumbakonamm RDO, with a request to declare it as 'Children's Protection Day' and also to declare the day as a local holiday.

The memorandum also demanded a special court to be constituted here for the speedy disposal of the case. The case against the school management for negligence is still pending before the Thanjavur court.

The Students Federation of India and AISF conducted a mini marathon from Mahamam tank to the school premises in the morning on the occasion.

The RDO told the parents that he would inform the District Collector about their demands and ensure that necessary steps were taken.
