Curfews: There are types of rapes. One in which it is done by a known friendly person. Those are the most difficult to curb. But there are others which take place because the opportunity is there.
Most cities in the world have a 24-hour culture. In India, the police impose curfews all across the country. Once I remember Connaught Place used to become a ghost town after 7pm. It used to be a dangerous place even for men.
Today’s life is such that working hours have been extended and busy streets and an active nightlife will actually provide a greater sense of security to women who venture out at night. India has to get in the 24-hour culture which has succeeded so well in other parts of the world.
Like in the latest case, a woman entered a bus which was empty apart from the criminals.
Here’s hoping that the current national outrage in the system will actually bring about a change in the system and the way society thinks about women at large.
