Sunnyvale, California: About seven non-resident Indians (NRIs) received the 2008 ‘Bharat Samman’, an expatriate award that recognises the economic and philanthropic achievements of the Indian Diaspora. The award was presented in New Delhi on Saturday, January 10, 2008 by Sir Richard Stagg, British High Commissioner to India and hosted by the N R I Institute during Pravasi Divas 2009.
The winners for this year’s award include Dr Shan Nair, Co-founder of U K — based Nair & Co, Peter Dillon, CEO of Richberry Group of Companies, Canada; Prasad Srinivasan, Chairman of the Public Health Foundation of Connecticut, U.S.; K S Kadar Pillai, CEO of AL- Hokook Intl., Kuwait; K Kumar, Committee Chairman of Indian Business Group, Dubai; Sanjeev Sharma, General Manager of Ecocell Technologies, Dubai; and Dr Rami Ranger, Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Oil Ltd, U.K.

With this award, the group joins an illustrious list of past awardees that include Sam Pitroda, chairman of India's National Knowledge Commission; Lord Swaraj Paul, British parliamentarian and founder of Caparo Group; and Baron Karan Bilimoria, CEO of Cobra Beer.
Over 500 Diplomats, industrialists and government dignitaries including Mauritius High Commissioner to India Choonee Mookhesswur, U.K.'s Lord Khalid Hameed and Baroness Sandip Verma and Blair Gulland of U.K.'s Gulland Solicitors joined the five-hour extravaganza held at the Lalit Hotel's grand ballroom.
