It was a landmark meeting because it was the first time that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh held a meeting with any separatist group leader outside the Hurriyat Conference. On January 14, Singh held talks with the five-member delegation of People’s Conference led by Sajjad Lone.
Lone went into the talks with a `positive frame of mind”. However, the meeting saw a sharp reaction from the Hurriyat chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, who said that the Amalgam was being sidelined in the entire peace process of Jammu and Kashmir.
