This is something that obviously touches, or should touch us all.
But then come the excuses.
How there really is no money for such things. How their parents would not send them to school anyway. How it is all due to no population control. The list is long.
Some, a rare few, decide to go out and at least try to do something about it.
On this Teacher's Day, here is one such tale.
Dressed in casual jeans, a T-shirt and an elegant hijab, Sabbah Haji does not quite match the image generated in one's mind of a social/charity worker. Her appearance and accent is closer to the ladies you would meet at Page Three parties. Ladies who would tell you how sad it is to see the "poor in the world" while they swirl their Rs 350 margaritas. In fact, Sabbah has been to a few such parties too.
But you are more likely to find her in an inaccessible part of Jammu.
