Ajit Pawar took oath as deputy Chief Minister on Friday after the Maharashtra Government cleared his name in connection with the over Rs.70,000 crore state irrigation scam.

Ajit Pawar took the oath of office and secrecy today at 9.30 a.m. at Raj Bhavan in presence of Maharashtra Prithviraj Chavan and state Governor Shankar Narayanan. Shiv Sena and the BJP boycotted the swearing in ceremony.

The NCP leader's comeback was imminent after the white paper on irrigation was accepted and published. The decision to bring him back into the cabinet just four days before the assembly winter session came as dramatically as his resignation in September.

The deputy CM and nephew of NCP chief and union minister Sharad Pawar indicated his comeback to the media earlier on Thursday.

According to the White Paper, Pawar, a prominent leader of the Nationalist Congress Party, was not involved in the irrigation scam.

The White Paper gave a clean chit to Pawar and the Water Resources Department, which has been in the eye of the storm ever since the scam was exposed.

The decks for re-induction of Ajit, nephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, were cleared following the presentation of the White Paper. (ANI)
