April-Sept gems, jewellery exports fall 11.7 pct

MUMBAI (Reuters) - Exports of gems and jewellery from India in April to September fell 11.7 percent on year to $19.90 billion as slower economic growth in the developed countries hit demand, Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council said on Friday.

Gems and jewellery constitute 17 percent of India's total exports, and employs 1.5 million workers.
