Describing the circumstances existing within the BJP as not good, its new president Rajnath Singh on Wednesday said, that he has accepted the post as a responsibility, and was not just looking at it as a takeover.
"The circumstances at present are not happy for us. But, I am taking over this post as a responsibility and not just to take over," said Singh.
Praising outgoing president Nitin Gadkari, Singh said that though charges levelled against him (Gadkari) are completely baseless, he had opted to resign from his post to preserve the image of the BJP as the party with a difference.
"Gadkari is one of our workers on whose character questions cannot be raised. The baseless allegations had forced him resign as the party president. I believe few people have worked as hard as he throughout his tenure," said Singh.
Singh thanked all leaders and supporters for their support in his re-election as party president and said that he will work hard to strengthen the party. (ANI)
