Pointing out various the problems being faced by railway commuters, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh on Monday urged the government to come with a 'passenger-friendly' Railway Budget, so that these problems can be solved in a given time period.

"People are facing a lot of problems while travelling by rail. Passengers are not getting tickets easily, berths are not available, railway tracks and stations are needed renovation. So, the government must take care of these things this year," said Rajnath Singh, while talking to reporters here a day before the Railway Budget to be presented.

Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal will present his first Rail Budget on Tuesday.

The proposed Railway Budget may see a possible hike in passenger fares, announcement of new trains, besides other measures aimed at mobilising resources to neutralise the burden of the recent diesel price hike.

Bansal is reported to have had several discussions with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Finance Minister P Chidambaram, the Planning Commission and Congress president Sonia Gandhi in connection with the draft Railway Budget for fiscal 2013-14. (ANI)
